PHILIP O’DONNELL WAS at Croke Park yesterday where he was presented with his Independent.ie Football Rising Stars Award.

The PhD in Business student was called into the DCU team on Sigerson weekend in Belfast in February as his side overcame the hosts, Ulster University Jordanstown, who had Donegal players Patrick McBrearty and Ryan McHugh in their starting line-up, 1-14 to 0-13 in the semi-final.
O’Donnell – a two-time Donegal SFC winner with his native club in 2011 and 2013 – kept a clean sheet again in the final, although his DCU team lost out 0-10 to 2-2 against University College Dublin.
