Glengad United have progressed to the second round of the FAI Cup following their victory over St Michael’s on Saturday.
St Michael’s 0-0 Glengad United (7-8 AET & Penalties)
Shane Byrne’s side were dragged into a penalty shoot-out following a scoreless tie that included extra-time.
St Michael, who were reduced to 10 men after 75 minutes, had managed to see off Glengad in the FAI Junior Cup earlier this year but were up against it in the final stages.
And despite St Michael’s goalkeeper Adrian Walsh denying James McKinney and Glengad on their first penalty attempt, the Inishowen side went on to claim an 8-7 victory following the spot-kicks.
Glengad United will find out their next opponents during the Extra.ie FAI Cup second round draw on Monday (August 12) at 5pm.
