Stephen Fildara and Michael Byrne netted the goals as Glengad United retained their Ulster Junior Cup last evening in Maginn Park.

The first-half goals by Fildara and Byrne saw Shane Byrne’s team take the silverware in what was a repeat of last year’s final.
While Brendan McLaughlin netted in the second half – having had a penalty saved by Kevin McLaughlin late in the first – Culdaff just couldn’t summons a leveler and Glengad took the Cup back to The Crua.
On Wednesday night, Glengad can win their third Inishowen League Premier Division title in a row when they head to Aileach, but first they had their minds on a Cup final date.
[adrotate group=”91″]They hit the front after just two minutes when, after a surging run and a fine one-two with James McKinney, Fildara drilled to the net.
Glengad, led by the towering John Gerard McLaughlin and Matthew Byrne at the back, doubled the lead in the 24th minute.
Seamus Doherty prodded from close range but the ball flew up off a Culdaff leg and Byrne rose to head home.
Late in the first half, McLaughlin flung himself out to deny McLaughlin from the spot after the attacker had been fouled by Doherty.
McLaughlin splendidly pulled one back when he cracked a superb effort beyond his namesake from 25 yards.
McLaughlin, though, was red carded six minutes from the end and Culdaff couldn’t find another way in as Glengad collected their first piece of silverware for the season.
