SHAY GIVEN made his 131st international appearance as the Republic of Ireland defeated Gibraltar 4-0 at the Estádio Algarve in Faro in this evening’s Euro 2016 qualifier.
The Stoke City netminder saw Cyrus Christie of Derby County shoot Martin O’Neill’s side into a 27th minute lead before a brace from Robbie Keane on 49 and 51 minutes, the second of which came from a penalty after Wes Hoolohan was fouled.
Substitute Shane Long headed a fourth goal on 79 minutes to complete a good day for the Boys in Green.

Seamus Coleman was left out of the starting XI with a slight hamstring injury with Monday’s fixture against Georgia at the Aviva Stadium in mind, while Ciaran Clark, whose father Mick was brought up in Milford, played centre-back. Aiden McGeady qualifies for Ireland through his Gweedore heritage and was a late substitute.
In the other games in Group D, Scotland lost 1-0 against Georgia in Tbilisi, while Germany overcame Poland on a 3-1 scoreline in Frankfurt. Those results mean Ireland move up to third place in the table.
