THE COUNTY’S massive spread of successes in 2015 will be recognised at tonight’s historic 40th Donegal Sports Star Awards in the Mount Errigal Hotel.
With a record crowd of over 750 attending the anniversary function Awards Chairperson Neil Martin is appealing to guests to be in the hotel by 6.45 as proceedings will start sharp at 7pm, with additional presentations to be made as the committee will honour the first winners from 1976 and members of the founding committee.
“We are preparing for the biggest night ever for the Donegal Sports Star Awards. It’s by far the biggest crowd that we have ever had so I am appealing to guests to be in the hotel by 6.45 at the latest. Dinner and the first awards will start at 7.00 sharp. In addition to the honouring the 1976 winners and the original committee we have 44 other award presentations to the 2015 winners so we have to kick-off early” Mr Martin said.
The special guest for the Donegal County Council sponsored 40th awards is Ireland’s first ever female Olympian Maeve Kyle who represented her country on the track. She also made 58 appearances for the Irish senior hockey team. “The committee has put a huge amount of voluntary work and time into preparing for tonight so we just hope now that all our guests enjoy what is an historic occasion for the Donegal Sports Star Awards” Mr Martin concluded.
