INISHOWEN LADIES LEAGUE won the Plate competition at the Under-14 Gaynor Cup this afternoon in Limerick.
At the University of Limerick campus, Diarmuid O’Brien’s team defeated Tipperary South on penalties.
The Inishown side won 3-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw. Grace McColgan was on the mark for Inishowen with Rosanna Kiely netting for Tipperary before Inishowen prevailed on penalties.
Inishowen defeated Carlow 6-1 on Friday night before recording two wins on Saturday, 3-0 against Waterford and 2-1 against Midlands.
[adrotate group=”46″]Yesterday, they were beaten 2-0 by eventual champions Metropolitan Girls League, who overcame Cork 3-1 in today’s Cup final. Their defeat by MGL meant that Inishowen went into the Plate competition and that title is on its way back to the peninsula.
Donegal Women’s League, meanwhile, finished fourth overall. After going down 3-0 to the highly-talented MGL in today’s Cup semi-final, BrÃd McGinty’s team lost on penalties to Mayo in the 3rd/4th place play-off.
Helena McGee put Donegal one up only for Mayo to level through Rolayo Aramide and Mayo won on penalties.
