FINN VALLEY MIDDLEWEIGHT Leon Gallagher remains on course for his for his fourth Irish title after booking his place in the Youth 2 75kgs final yesterday.
Gallagher is already a three-time Irish champion who also claimed a bronze medal at the 2013 European Schoolboys Championships in Dublin.
The Finn Valley powerhouse is on the march again this year and yesterday scored an impressive win over Titans puncher Edward Barrett.
Gallagher was in command of the bout from the first bell and made no mistake on his way to a win that propels him into another Irish decider.
Gallagher will meet Tommy Hyde of Setanta in the final after he stopped Bracken’s Dean Gunery in the other 75kgs final.
St Bridget’s Clonmany’s Edward McEleney is back in an Irish final, too. His unanimous decision win over Christopher Fleming of Ratoath fired him into the 91+ kgs final.
McEleney won a Youth 1 title two years ago and will be gunning for glory again next weekend when he meets John Mongan from Ennis.
Illies Golden Gloves’ John Moran is already guaranteed the Youth 2 44kgs title by way of a walkover and Carrigart’s Jack Green will face Clonmel’s Jordan Sheehan, with the Youth 2 46kgs crown on the line.
Four other Donegal boxers all have semi-finals to look forward to next weekend.
Dunfanaghy’s Sean Kelly meets Ray Collins of Trojans in a Youth 1 46kgs semi-final; Dungloe’s Fionn McRuairi takes on Trevor McCarthy of Mayfield (Boy 4 52kgs); Convoy man Ryan Ward-Mulrine meets Luke Harley from Tramore (Boy 4 54kgs); and Raphoe’s Tom Doherty is up against Spartan’s Cathal Crowley (Boy 4 86kgs)
McRuairi overcame Eric Byrne from Sacred Heart in a quarter-final yesterday.
There was disappointment for Convoy’s former double Irish kingpin Bryan McNamee yesterday. Having defeated Adam Taylor (Oliver Plunkett) on Friday night, McNamee was beaten yesterday in the Youth 2 66kgs semi-final by Paul Ryan from Bay City.
