A NEW AWARD in memory of the much-loved RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta manager and Gaelic games commentator Séamus Mac Géidigh will be launched this morning.
The President of the GAA, Aogán Ó Fearghail and Edel Ní Chuireáin, Ceannaire RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta will be on the station at around 11 o’clock this morning to formally launch the award.
Gradam Shéamuis Mhic Géidigh will be presented to the player selected as the best player in the Donegal Senior Football Championship. The winner will be chosen by the Gaelic games journalists in Donegal and will be presented at the end of year banquet.
The late Mr Mac Géidigh, from Ardsbeg in Gortahork, was a renowned voice of GAA in Donegal.
He was unrivalled in his field in the coverage of Gaelic games and his devotion to the Donegal SFC was unmoved.
He died in July after falling ill whilst out walking near his home in west Donegal, just two days after he commentated on Donegal’s win over Monaghan in the Ulster SFC semi-final replay.
The quarter-finals of the Donegal SFC take place this coming weekend.
