Jacob Borg is expected to pen a new contract at Finn Harps for the 2019 season.
The Malta international proved a huge hit at Finn Park after arriving in July.
Borg, adept in defence or midfield, scored two goals in a dozen appearances for Harps.
Australian-born Borg had other suitors in the Premier Division, but Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub understands that the 27-year-old is now set to remain a Harps player.
Last month, Borg indicated a desire to stay at Harps, where he said he ‘feel that I am part of a family’.
Borg played a big part in the success of Harps winning promotion back into the Premier Division at the fight attempt and expected confirmation of his signature will be a further boost to the Navenny Street faithful.
Ollie Horgan has already assembled a useful-looking squad, which now includes Sligo Rovers legend Raffaele Cretaro.
After a club record 531 League of Ireland appearances, Cretaro has left Sligo. The 37-year-old was last night announced as a Harps player for the 2019 season.
Already Harps have secured the services of six of their 2018 squad with Nathan Boyle, Ciaran Gallagher, Sam Todd, Gareth Harkin, Mark Timlin and Mark Coyle all pledging their commitment.
Caolan McAleer has returned to Harps after a season at Sligo Rovers while Horgan has snapped up Drogheda’s Colm Deasy and Longford United pair Daniel O’Reilly and Sam Verdon.
Ciaran Coll has left for Derry City, Shelbourne have signed Aidan Friel and John Kavanagh has returned to Cork City following a loan spell at Harps.
