Convoy ABC’s Bryan McNamee captured his fourth Irish title yesterday afternoon.
McNamee overcame John Marshall in the senior 75kgs decider at the Third Level Championship finals.
The Convoy puncher, a student at Letterkenny Institute of Technology, had too much in the tank for Marshall, representing DCU.
McNamee had to overcome a cut to his head in the opening round, but fought back to claim the win via a unanimous decision.
A three-time Irish titlist as a schoolboy, he competed in the 2013 European Schoolboy Championships and this latest win is sure to give the Calhame man a real lift.
There was delight on the double for Dungloe ABC.
LyIT student Danny Boyle won the intermediate 81kgs crown thanks to a split decision win over Dundalk IT’s Eghosa Igharo.
Kieran McCole, representing DCU, was victorious in the intermediate welterweight final, overcoming Mikey Keating of Waterford IT.
There was no joy, however, for Ronan Kelly of Raphoe and a student at the Technological University, Dublin, as he lost out to Ulster University’s Euan McConnell in the intermediate middleweight final.
