AN EXCELLENT DISPLAY from Leo McHugh pushed Four Masters on to a third game undefeated as they find some late season form in All-County Division 1.
Kilcar 1-7Â Four Masters 1-15
Both sides fielded without a number of regulars and served up a good game with some fine scoring on display and the outcome was in the balance until the last quarter, when Four Masters out-scored their hosts by seven points to a goal.
Sean O’Kennedy, Andrew McClean, Dillon Ward, Danny McGarrigle and Aodhan McGinley were on the mark in the first quarter to see Four Masters lead by 0-5 to 0-3.
Sean Meehan and Michael Hegarty exchanged points before the key score of the half, Leo McHugh taking a return pass from Peader Espey to close in on Michael Cunningham to goal. Josh Lacey finished the first half scoring with a fine solo effort.
Stephen McBrearty scored two points for Kilcar early in the first half but Sean Meehan, Danny McGarrigle, Dylan Ward and Sean O’Kennedy responded as the sun went down over a glorious Towney. Jason McShane netted a late goal for Kilcar and the final points of the game were slotted by Peadar Espey, Dylan Ward and a monster free from the excellent Barry Monaghan, splitting the posts from some 55 metres.
This win ensures Four Masters will avoid an automatic relegation spot and remain in the hunt to also avoid a playoff but this will depend on other results going their way.
