Ryan Rainey has returned home and will feature on Donegal’s soccer pitches this season.
Rainey, who spent seven years at Wolverhampton Wanderers, has signed for his native Bonagee United in the Ulster Senior League.
The versatile Rainey, comfortable in defence or midfield, signed for Wolves from Bonagee in 2011.
He has been capped by the Republic of Ireland at Under-17 and Under-19 levels.Â
Rainey was given a two-year contract extension by Wolves in 2016, but in May the 21-year-old was one of 12 players releases from Molineaux, having gone on loan to Chester City last season.
Rainey’s acquisition comes as a big boost to new Bonagee boss Jason Gibson, who has already added the likes of Darren McFadden, Jordan Armstrong, Micheál Doherty and Garbhan Grant to his ranks.Â
