Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern was in Donegal for the weekend – and took the chance to cheer on his local soccer club.
But there was disappointment for Ahern this afternoon as he saw Home Farm lose to Letterkenny Rovers in the FAI Intermediate Cup quarter-final.
Ahern hails from Drumcondra in north Dublin with Home Farm from nearby Whitehall.
The Dubliners were no match for Rovers as Darren McElwaine netted twice in a 2-0 win for Eamonn McConigley’s men.
It was a second game against Donegal opposition for Home Farm – who had beaten Ulster Senior League champions Cockhill Celtic in the previous round.
Ahern addressed a special meeting on Brexit on Friday night in the Silver Tassie Hotel – an event organised by former TD Niall Blaney.
