FORMER Donegal minor manager Stephen Friel has been installed as the new manager of Sean MacCumhaills.
Friel, who lives in Drumkeen, met with the senior panel at Sean MacCumhaill Park yesterday evening having been appointed as the successor to Damian Devaney, who stood down following a year in charge.
In 2016, MacCumhaills finished seventh in Division 2 of the All-County League, just five points off the promotion spots and reached the quarter-finals of the Donegal senior football championship, where they were beaten by eventual champions Glenswilly.
Friel, a native of County Derry, was involved most recently as manager of Red Hughs, before stepping down in mid-2015.
Friel managed the Donegal minors in 2012 and 2013 and previously managed Naomh Colmcille.
It was under Friel that Naomh Colmcille’s resurgence began – in 2010, Friel guided Naomh Colmcille to the Junior Championship title.
