Dylan Browne McMonagle made his intentions quite clear in defence of his Championship Title for 2019 in his last year on the Pony Circuit when racking up a five-timer at the first meeting of the season at Carrickadawson on Sunday.
The Letterkenny teenager got off to the perfect start in the opening race 143cm guiding Unhinged to a bloodless victory and it was a case of deja vu as he quickly doubled up on Five Stone of Lead in the 148cm 1 mile. Baby Browne and Danny Gilligan where game winners of the 153cm pony race when swooping late to grab Dylans Pride around the home turn with Four Stone of Lead behind in 3rd. Dual Dingle Derby Winner Mr Bowen and Co Limerick rider Philip Byrnes had to pull out all the stops in the 2mile open to hold off another former Derby Winner Idas Dream and Sam Ewing by half a length. Gold Dream for Sam Ewing caused a bit of a surprise in the 1 mile open taking the lead three furlongs out a keeping on well to see of Pack Your Bags who was doing it’s best work late with Derrys Pride filling 3rd place and then. Cian McNally took an incident-packed local race taking full of advantage of the departure of Nicole Yemm riding her own pony Bailey around the home turn. Athea Jade recorded the treble for Browne McMonagle when getting the better of Remix long time leader and Luke Turner close to the finish for a half length win with Treasured Memories picking up the bronze medal in 3rd. Let It Go gave Dylan Browne McMonagle his four timer when poking through the inner rail heading for home for a snug win in the 12 furlongs open over Crafty Boy. He capped ff a fine afternoon when taking the maiden on Ya Skitter to give the National Champion a fiver timer and another good day at the office.
