REFEREE JIMMY WHITE was a busy man at the Banks this afternoon as he sent off five players as Milford defeated Naomh Muire in Division 2.
Naomh Muire 0-6 Milford 1-9
The win was Milford’s first in the second tier of football in the county in some 23 years and of particular significance as their manager, Danny O’Donnell, played for Naomh Muire.
Milford’s Sean Black and Adam O’Brien of Naomh Muire were dismissed on 24 minutes for an off the ball incident and then, in the last minute of the half, Thomas Duffy of Naomh Muire was shown the line for striking Brandon Toye.
In between times, Johnny Logue scored what proved to be the only goal of the game on 26 minutes, when he drove past Lee Boyle from 20 metres.
It meant the Milford were 1-4 to 0-2 in front at the break, with Daniel Devlin having scored both the hosts’ points.
Just two minutes into the second half, Eamon O’Boyle’s Naomh Muire saw their numbers decrease to 12 when Sean ‘Point’ Gallagher was sent off for a high tackle and with tempers frayed, Luke Barrett of Milford was given a straight red.
Cathal McGettigan, scorer of four points in all for the away team, kept the scoreboard ticking over and Jack Boyle also put over a couple of frees for the home side.
