There are some five-star thrillers promised as the North West Women’s Super League resumes from the Foyle Cup break on Thursday evening.
There is no question where the game of the evening is as the reigning champions, Illies Celtic, welcome the league leaders, Bonagee United, to Stranaclea.Â
Bonagee rose to the top two weeks’ ago with a 4-1 home win over Greencastle, while Illies have come firmly into the reckoning once more.
A few weeks back, Bonagee won a seven-goal thriller between the teams as Chantelle Grant (2), Natalie McFadden and Anna Doherty topped a Paula McGrory hat-trick. With McGrory on song and on form, John Doherty’s Illies can always be confident of retaining their crown, but with Bonagee occupying top spot the Dry Arch Park girls won’t want to give up that berth.
Any slippage by Bonagee could also leave the door ajar for Greencastle and Fanad United, who meet at Chapel Lane.
Greencastle reached the final of the Foyle Cup last week, but suffered a heavy loss to Sion Swifts in Friday’s decider. Packie McElwaine’s Fanad have enjoyed an excellent first season back and are right in the hunt for honours as the League enters its final handful of games.Â
Elsewhere, Lagan Harps host Moville Celtic at Orchard Park while Clonmany Shamrocks entertain Carndonagh.
