FIVE DONEGAL men are included in the Ulster University, Jordanstown squad for the Dr McKenna Cup ahead of Sunday’s game against Donegal in Ballybofey.
UUJ are managed by Martin McHugh (pictured above by Geraldine Diver) and his squad contains a handful of Tir Chonaill players.
Donegal senior players and Kilcar trio Patrick McBrearty, Ryan McHugh and Eoin McHugh are included and expected to feature prominently in Sunday’s McKenna Cup opener.
Donegal’s Under-21s are flying the county’s flag in the competition and Downings man Lorcan Connor, who is a member of Declan Bonner’s U21 panel, is also named on the UUJ selection.
Connor played for the Donegal U21s in Tuesday’s North-West Cup defeat to Sligo in Letterkenny.
Cloughaneely’s John Fitzgerald is also included in McHugh’s UUJ panel.
“Obviously there’s an added element of interest to this game,” McHugh said in a recent interview.
“The fact that Donegal are fielding their Under-21 side makes it an intriguing contest but it’s a game we are looking forward to.”Naturally, I would know most of the Donegal players at all levels so even though it will be an Under-21 side that will be put in front of us I don’t believe that there will be any huge element of surprise.
“I think the Donegal team will relish the challenge and for our part we are very keen to make an impact in the competition.”
