What a finish to the national underage programme.
For Finn Valley it ended on an exciting note as the under-14 girls team absolutely nailed the 4 x 100m in what could be described as the perfect combination to win at the Juvenile Track and Field All-Irelands in Tullamore, Co Offaly, in convincing fashion. Their time of 51.46 seconds was just five-hundredths of a second off the national age group record.
The team was made up of Bethany Lecky from Convoy; Michaela Byrne of Killybegs; Daniella Jansen, who is from the Cross and Lauren Callaghan, Killygordon with Sharon Bradley the coach.
Earlier in the day in the relays, the under-18 boys were fourth, the under-13 girls came fifth and the under-17 boys were sixth.
In the B champs the most prominent event was under-14 girls high jump, where Aine Wilkinson from Killygordon jumped 1.40 metres for a winning effort with bronze shared by Abbie Meenan and Caitlin McGonagle, both from Ballybofey, who both jumped 1.30 metres.
Aine earlier in the day had won the long jump.  The first medal of a long day having exited Stranorlar 5.30am went to Oisin Thompson from Ballybofey in the high jump. There were also exciting results and performances from St Mary’s NS Stranorlar  pupils Daniel Gordon, who took gold in the 80m in the under-14. His run was very impressive and Jamie Murray, who took part in the under-13 80m, took home silver.
It was a most enjoyable day of competition and what thankfully has become the norm applied – namely athletes, parents and coaches working together to enjoy this occasion a national competition .
