FINN HARPS HAVE been hit with yet another injury setback after Tony McNamee was forced out of the action against Derry City last night.
McNamee, who had been excellent for Harps up to then, had to be withdrawn in the 74th minute after feeling his hamstring tight.
McNamee was assessed by the physio, Mickey McGlynn, but was replaced by Ethan Boyle 16 minutes from time.
Harps drew an animated derby 2-2 with three goals in the final six minutes.
Before that rip-roaring finish, Harps suffered a blow when McNamee was forced off and Harps manager Ollie Horgan confirmed that the Ramelton man will miss Friday night’s clash with League champions Dundalk in Ballybofey.
[adrotate group=”43″]“Tony has damaged his damaged his hamstring, we will have it assessed, but he’ll certainly be out for Friday night,” Horgan told Donegal Sport Hub.
“We have 72 hours to prepare for Dundalk. That’s hard work.
“It’s great at the same time: Dundalk coming to Ballybofey is what we wanted, albeit we might have needed a week or two recovery to patch things up.
“That’s just part of it. There are others lads who will come in on Friday night and get a chance.
“We’re back training tomorrow night and we’ll see who we have available at that stage.”
[adrotate group=”50″]Horgan is already without long-term injury victims Josh Mailey and Michael Rafter, while Raymond Foy and Matthew Crossan are also in the recovery ward.
Gareth Harkin hobbled out of Friday’s 0-0 draw against Bohemians at Finn Park with a calf injury and is also in a race against time.
Horgan said: “It’s unlikely we’ll have him. We tried to get him right last night, but we realised that he was well off. He needed a lot more time and 72 hours might be a bit short for him.”
[adrotate group=”62″]On a brighter note for Harps, defender Keith Cowan came through 90 minutes in the Brandywell having been a pre-match doubt, owing to a foot injury.
Horgan said: “Keith was very doubtful until today. He has a knock to his foot. It’s not a muscle or a ligament injury, but it’s an injury where if he can play through the pain barrier he’ll play. He will be sore for a couple of days, but we’re hoping that we can get him right for Friday.”
