Finn Harps Academy teams were in action over the weekend as Declan Boyle’s U17s earned themselves a semi-final spot, while Kevin McHugh’s under-15s were in action against Damien Duff’s Shamrock Rovers U15s
Finn Harp U17s 4 Bray Wanderers 2
The Finn Harps U17s booked themselves a place in the semi-finals of the National League competition with a superb 4-2 win over Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds.
Ronan Gallagher scored twice while Conor Black and captain Darragh Ellison also found the back the net.
The results mean that Declan Boyle’s boys remain on course for the double after capturing the Mark Farren Cup last month. Harps were boosted by the return to the squad of Ellison and Jack Doherty.
It’s been an impressive campaign for the Harps U17s and now Boyle turns his attention to preparing for the semi-finals. It was the second time for Harps to defeat Bray at the Carlisle Grounds this season after an extra-time win in the Farren Cup back in the summer.
Draw not enough for Harps U15s against the Hoops
The Finn Harps U15s interest in the national competition is over after Kevin McHugh boys could only manage a draw in the final playoff series game against Shamrock Rovers at the Roadstone Academy Grounds.
Harps needed a victory to book a place in the semi-finals of the competition. It was the second time for McHugh’s side to share the spoils against an opposition who are managed by former Republic of Ireland international star Damian Duff.
Last month it was a 2-2 draw in Killygordon. McHugh has paid tribute to the commitment of the players since last January and those efforts reaped a string of excellent result in the league that saw the squad qualify for the national playoff series.
