FINN HARPS ARE BACK in action tonight following the mid-term break with a friendly fixture against Cliftonville at Solitude.
Harps returned to training on Monday night after being given a week off following the 3-0 win over Sligo Rovers at Finn Park a fortnight ago.
Next Friday night, Harps face Longford Town at City Calling Stadium in their first League match after the break.
Tonight’s game will mark the return of Paul Hegarty to the Harps dugout, the Ballindrait man having been confirmed on Monday evening as Ollie Horgan’s new assistant manager.
[adrotate group=”43″]Horgan had been on the hunt for a new number two since the departure of Gavin Dykes, who left to take over as the manager of Ballinamallard United.
The appointment of Hegarty, a former Harps player, who managed the club from December 2006 until May 2009, was swift and he has been at training this week ahead of tonight’s game against Cliftonville.
Horgan had hoped to include one or two potential new faces in his squad on trial, but some irons have had to be removed from the fire after cooling down.
“I had one or two that I was hoping to add in the transfer window, but they won’t happen,” Horgan said. “There were initial positive talks, but they just haven’t materialised now. We have plenty of time – the window doesn’t open until July 1 and is open until the end of July – so we’ll keep the eyes open.”
