FINN HARPS may have to travel to UCD on Sunday evening – but Ollie Horgan’s side won’t know for certain until Thursday night.
UCD are due to take on Slovan Bratislava in the Europa League second leg on Thursday. Collie O’Neill’s team trail 1-0 from the first leg when Adam Zrelazk’s 83rd minute goal was all that separated them in Slovakia.
Should UCD bow out of the competition this week, they’ll host Harps at Belfied on Sunday at 7pm.
“We’re taking it that we’re playing UCD on Sunday and we’ll prepare as if we’re playing UCD; we’ll book the bus and book the meals as normal for Belfield,” Horgan said, though the Harps boss wasn’t exactly impressed at an arrangement he learned of just before his side took on Cobh Ramblers on Friday.
“Should UCD win on Thursday night – and we wish them the best of luck – we’ll reschedule.”
Meanwhile, Horgan says he won’t be rushing out to sign new blood in this transfer window.
The Harps manager has run the rule over a number of trialists of late, while he has added the likes of Nathan Boyle, Oisin McMenamin, Kieran McDaid and Conor Keddy to his ranks.
He said: “We need to be sure that they’re better than what we have and, at the moment, we’re unsure.
“We had a friendly against Drumoghill at the opening of their pitch and got a good look at lads in 11 v 11 games. It’s difficult with the lads that we have in now when we don’t have that luxury. We had planned an 11 v 11 in-house game next Saturday, but that’s out the window now.
“What we have here are no world beaters, but they’re good lads with decent ability.”
