It was a disappointing Sunday for the Finn Harps U13s and U19s. After wins for the U15s and U17s on Saturday, it was Joe Boyle’s 19s who were in action first on Sunday at the City Calling Stadium against Longford.
After being in flying form since the start of the season the Harps boys tasted defeat for the first time going down 5-1 to the hosts. Stephen Doherty was the scorer for the visitors who up to Sunday also had a hugely impressive defensive record.
Joe Boyle’s side has a Northwest derby next Sunday against Derry City at the Diamond Park in Ballyare (kick-off 6.00).
Meanwhile, later on, Sunday at the Moss in Drumoghill, the Harps U13s were on the wrong side of a 4-3 result against the Cavan-Monaghan FP.
Manager Kevin McHugh had played and scored earlier in the afternoon for Kildrum Tigers in a Knockalla Caravans Cup semi-final against Glengad that went to extra-time and penalties.
McHugh then made the journey from Glengad to take charge of the Harps U13s. Aaron McLaughlin scored for the second successive week while Shaunie Bradley got the other two Harps goals.
McHugh’s boys are back in action next Saturday against the Mayo Schoolboys League at Illistrin (kick-off 2.15).
