BRETT MCGINTY will have to navigate his way past familiar opponents if he is to medal at the European Youth Championships.
The St Johnston man is in action tomorrow in Anapa in the last 16.
The Oakleaf ABC welterweight faces Laszlo Kozak from Hungary in his opening bout tomorrow.
Two years ago, he defeated Kozak at these Championships only to lose out against Mladam Sobjeslavski in his next contest.
Should he get by Kozak this time, the Irish captain could be up against Gurgen Madoyan from Armenia in the quarter-finals.
[adrotate group=”57″]Madoyan would have to defeat Bulgaruan Georgiev Buzmov Asat before a meeting with McGinty could become reality.
In 2012, Madoyan was beaten by McGinty on his way to a European Schoolboys bronze medal, also in Anapa.
On the other side of the draw to McGinty is England’s Mohammed Harris Akbar, who defeated McGinty in the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games final in Samoa.
