RYAN MCHUGH has grown sick of being told he couldn’t be enjoying his football – and insists he’s ‘loving it’.
The Donegal All-Star lined out for Ulster University in the Sigerson Cup earlier this week and will play for Donegal in the Allianz League on Sunday against Kerry.
McHugh had a lengthy club season with Kilcar in 2016, when they reached the Donegal SFC final – but you don’t hear him complain.
“Everyone keeps telling me that I mustn’t be enjoying football – but every day I go out, I enjoy it,” he said on the first episode of Donegal Sports Talk – our new weekly podcast – this week
[adrotate group=”46″]“Nobody puts more pressure on me than myself. You’re going to have pressure, that’s the way football is, but every jersey I put on I love it. If I’m not enjoying it, I won’t be playing it.”
Last Friday night, the McHugh family were honoured at the Donegal Sports Star Awards.
Martin McHugh, a double All-Star winner, and sons Mark and Ryan were given a Special Sports Recognition Award after becoming only the second family – after the Brogans in Dublin – with a father and two sons winning All-Stars.
Martin McHugh said: “It’s great recognition for the family. I didn’t think about it until Declan Kerr rang me.
“Being honoured by the Donegal people is brilliant. The Brogans are only other family that has had that. It is a big achievement. It’s only when you look back that you realise what you have achieved.”
