A GOAL IN each half from Michael ‘Sticky’ Ward against fellow title-contenders Deele Harps sealed the CT Ball Divison 2 for Erne Wanderers this afternoon.
Deele Harps 0-2 Erne Wanderers
Glenree United were also in contention but they could only manage a 0-0 draw at Curragh Athletic, which meant that Alan Dorrian’s team from Ballyshannon were crowned champions.
Ward and Dermot Slevin were outstanding in a great team performance. In fact Ward almost put the visitors in front early on from a cross by Philip Patton, but goalkeeper Christopher Roulstone did well to save.
Erne did hit the front on 10 minutes when Cian Dolan’s throughball split open the Deele defence and Ward finished well into the bottom corner.
The home side made their first chance midway through the first half when, from a Kevin McBrearty free-kick, Kieran McGowan headed wide. Then, eight minutes later, Conor Catterson and McGowan saw shots blocked.
Erne created the chances early in second half. Roulstone saved from Patton on two separate occasions before the second killer goal.
It came on 66 minutes when Ward brilliantly drove home from 25 yards following a pass from David Dolan. Two minutes later, Ward had a great chance to complete his hat-trick but shot wide when clean through.
Deele almost got back into it with seven minutes remaining only to see McBrearty hit the crossbar.
