THREE Eoghan McGettigan goals enabled Naomh Conaill to overcome Four Masters in the County U-21 tie at Tirconaill Park this afternoon.
Four Masters 0-15 Naomh Conaill 4-6
McGettigan grabbed goals in the ninth and 12th minutes – set up by Paul McGuinness on each occasion – but the home side hit back with six of the next seven points to level the contest at 0-7 to 2-1. Dillon Ward was pivotal to the Donegal town side’s chances.
Two points towards the end of the first half, through Ciaran Thompson and Matias McKelvey edged Naomh Conaill into a 2-3 to 0-7 half-time lead.
McGettigan, following a Ciaran Thompson assist, grabbed his third goal on 36 minutes but as points were exchanged at both ends, leaving Naomh Conaill 3-5 to 0-10 in front.
However, an attempted short kick-out by Four Masters goalkeeper Ryan Haughey was seized upon by JD Boyle, who hammered home a fourth Naomh Conaill goal.
Five successive points from the hosts made a game of it late on but two behind – 4-5 to 0-15 – was as close as Four Masters would get. Ethan O’Donnell then scored the last point of the match.
