MARK ENGLISH finished fourth in the 800m at the Morton Games in Santry last night and will remain hopeful of getting a place at next month’s World Championships.
English finished in 1:49.27 for a fourth-placed finish in Santry last night in a race won by Isaiah Harris.
The American Harris won in 1:48.40. Conditions were certainly not conducive to fast running and it was a last shot at reaching the qualifying time for Doha.
On Sunday, English came with a stunning late kick to win a Diamond League race in Birmingham in 1:45.94.
Although that time was shy of the 1:45.80 mark needed to secure a place in Doha, English – a three-time European medalist – will still be confident of getting a place via the qualifying rankings.
Sommer Lecky, meanwhile won silver in the women’s high jump.
The Finn Valley AC woman cleared 1.83 metres at the first attempt to secure silver with the event won by 2014 Commonwealth gold medalist and Olympic finalist Eleanor Patterson.
