Finn Valley high jumper Sommer Lecky was up up and away last weekend to Sheffield, where she cleared 1.79 metres to win the English Under-20 Championships.
The win adds to her profile as a developing talented international athlete. The reaction of family present and Coach Niall Wilkinson was one of delight.
They are such a part of the success story as they are invariably present trackside. Sommer raised the bar to 1.82 to attempt a new Irish junior record but it wasn’t to be on this particular day and will no doubt return to have another go at this height in the period ahead.
Elsewhere Brian Ó Domhnaill won the Leinster 3k walk title masters and will be joined by a number of FVAC personnel on the journey to Athlone for the National Masters on Sunday .
Patsy McGonagle leaves Wednesday as team Leader / Manager of Ireland in European Indoor Champs.
