Roma McLaughlin and Shelbourne made an encouraging start to their Women’s Champions League group today with a 0-0 draw against Medyk Konin.
Polish champions Medyk Konin are the group’s top seeds, but Shels – for whom McLaughlin played the full 90 minutes in the engine room – earned a brilliant point at Seaview in Belfast.
Shelbourne defender Seana Cooke was red carded in the 80th minute, but a resulting penalty by Katarzyna Daleszczyk flew wide of the target and the Reds held on for a point.
Shelbourne take on Finland’s PK-35 Vantaa on Friday before meeting Linfield next Monday, both games again at Seaview.
