IN HIS PLAYING days with Fanad United, Eamon McConigley was a two-time winner of the FAI Intermediate Cup.
McConigley was part of the Triaghalough side’s momentous teams of 1988 and 1995 but this afternoon he was calling the shots at the Aura Centre in Letterkenny.
His Letterkenny Rovers side produced an excellent first half and eventually defeated Midleton from Cork 2-1, which is a result that ensures a last eight berth in the competition.

“The FAI Intermediate Cup is the next best cup in Ireland behind the FAI Cup,” McConigley said. “I’ve enough experience having won this competition twice and lost in the final twice. It’s up to me to get that experience out to the lads on the field.
“You can’t take anything for granted. You have to be so motivated on the day. Too many clubs think you can go into this competition on a whim and a prayer, without any preparation. You have to be prepared from the word go.”
