DRUMKEEN UNITED lifted the Donegal Youth League title with a comfortable win over Gweedore United at St Patrick’s Park this afternoon.
Drumkeen United 3-0 Gweedore United
Shaun Gallagher’s team went in at half-time one up courtesy of a goal from Eoghan Kennedy and although the visitors were still in the game until the closing stages, substitutes Conor Patton and Michael Guthrie added goals.
It was Drumkeen’s seventh win from seven outings this term, with next Saturday’s home fixture against Bonagee United now irrelevant.
Eoghan Kennedy, who was competent throughout, opened the scoring on 14 minutes when he broke into space and onto a pass from Lee Kennedy to shoot beneath Jamie Hunter to put the home team a goal to the good.
Hunter made a number of good stops afterwards, including a double save from Eoghan Kennedy and Sean Peoples.
At the start of the second half, six minutes in, Hunter again stood up well to save when he denied Gweedore’s Ultan Boyle.
The visitors, managed by Paddy McFadden, were still very much in the game and Drumkeen needed goalkeeper Eamon Connolly on his toes as he saved from Denis Coll.
Twelve minutes from time, Drumkeen got their second when Patton glanced home a header from corner by Kenan Gibson.
It was 3-0 then a minute from time when Guthrie got into space and held his cool before shooting across Hunter and into the bottom corner.
