IT WENT right to the final furlong of the season, but Donegal jockey Oisin Orr secured a share of the 2019 Champion Apprentice title.
Orr took victory in the final race today at Naas to go level with Andrew Slattery and the pair are joint winners of the title.
Rathmullan man Orr was Champion Apprentice previously in 2017 when he took the crown with 20 winners.
This year he needed more than twice that number.
Slattery entered the day two wins ahead of Orr, 43 to 41.
However, Orr won aboard the 13/2 favourite Tide Of Time for Edward Lynam to come within one win of his rival.
In the last race, Orr took victory on board Dermot Weld’s 9/2 Maria Cristina.
Orr said: “You just have to keep going after results like the one in the first race.
“It was going to be a great season no matter what and it’s the most winners I’ve had in a year. It was nice to get that one in the last race.”
