This weekend sees a double header on the Rally calendar with the Lark in the Park on Saturday and the Monaghan Stages Rally on Sunday.
The action kicks off on Saturday with the Maiden City Motor Club’s Lark in Park Rally based in Derry with an 8 mile stage outside Drung in Quigleys Point – this will run three times before a skip back over the border to St Columbs Park were the challenge of the Park lies in wait for the 60 odd crews.
Top seed is local Muff man Joe McGoingle with Ciaran Geaney calling the notes in the Fabia S2000 (pictured above) the pair will be highly fancied after good runs on the Circuit and West Cork.
At two is Frank Wray and Joe McNulty in the Subaru WRC with leading Modified driver Adrian Hethringhton in his 2.5 Escort seeded at number 3.
Donegal interest will see John Bonner and Leon Jordan at 5 closely followed by Brendan Mc Daid and Karl Reid in their 2.5 Escort with Kevin Kelly and Gavin Doherty right behind in another Escort.
Proceedings will kick off shortly after 10 am with the first test starting just of the main Quigleys Point to Carndonagh Road, spectators are urged to arrive early and stay safe while enjoying the action.
Then the action switches to Monaghan for the second round of the Sligo Pallets Border Rally Championship on Monday.
The Rally which is based in the Hillgrove Hotel will tackle 9 tough and demanding stages in the Tydavnet, Emyvale and Ballinode areas of the county.
Top Donegal interest will be Brian Brogan and Damien McGettigan in their Escort 2.5.
The pair will be hoping to kick on and emulate their super result on the West Cork Rally we they brought home the National Section.
Also looking to score good points will be Damien Tourish from Ballybofey in his Escort as well as Conor Harvey in the Toyota GT86 with the Joule Donegal International Rally around the corner both will be looking for a good result.
Class battles further down the field will also be interesting with Jonny Jordan and Leonard Craig in similar Toyota Starlets being keen favourites for class 11R.
In class 2 the Letterkenny battle between Shane Forde in his C2R2 and Martin Gallagher in the Fiesta will be one to watch.
With the normal demanding fast and flowing stages in Monaghan whoever comes out on top in any battle will surely have a good result at the end of the day.
