GWEEDORE CELTIC PROGRESSED to the last four of the Colin Breslin Cup with a comfortable win over neighbours Gweedore United.
Elsewhere, in the Dick Duffy Youth League, Fanad United overcame Letterkenny Rovers and champions Drumkeen United’s home fixture against Bonagee United fell foul of the weather.
Gweedore Celtic 4-0 Gweedore United
This Colin Breslin Memorial Cup quarter final tie was played at a windy Screaban and it concluded in an all round comprehensive victory for the home side.
From the first whistle the home team showed their intent and laid siege to the United goal. Playing against a strong wind, Paddy Duggan’s side showed great battling qualities and after good wide play by Dan Gallagher, he cooly pulled a great pass from the end line to Kyran Glennon who slotted home on ten minutes.
The home team kept the tempo up and from a right wing cross from Mick Roarty, Conor Boyle was on hand to shot high into the United net.
The second half was a similar pattern of play as the home side dictated matters and added further goals from Glennon and Captain Ciaran McHugh, who minutes earlier hit a twenty yard pile-driver off the cross bar.
It finished four nil to the Celts who had good performances from Conor McCafferty,Daniel McLaughlin,Conor Duggan and Kyran Glennon with McColgan,Noel Sweeney best for United.

Donegal Youth League
Letterkenny Rovers 0-3 Fanad United
Three goals in the space of 14 glorious second half minutes gave Fanad United a thoroughly deserved 3-0 win over an out of sorts Letterkenny Rovers in a Donegal Youth League game which was played in the coldest of windy conditions at the Aura centre on Saturday afternoon.
The visitors were by far the superior in a second half onslaught which will raise concerns for Rovers ahead of FAI National cup last 32 action in the coming weeks while the win will give Fanad added impetus as they face into a number of the cup competitions domestically.
It could have been all so different if Rovers had taken two super chances in the first twenty minutes. Shane Doherty did well to beat his man before rounding goalkeeper Oran Blaney but as his strike was heading goalwards it was cleared off the line by the retreating Ciaran Blaney on 11 minutes.
Then on 20 minutes Oran Blaney was at his super best to divert Zach Gormans shot onto the crossbar for a truly super save.
That was as good as it got for Rovers who almost fell behind themselves when Allen Pasoma drew a good save from Rovers netminder Sean Friel on 25 mins after being set free by the lively Darren McElwaine.
Fanad dominated the second half and should have went ahead but somehow Martin Cullen blazed over on 54 minutes.
With the strength of Paddy Carr beginning to get a grip on midfield proceedings it was he who fired the opener on 64 minutes striking low with a composed finish after some super approach work again involving Pasoma and McElwaine.
That goal was celebrated wildly and just 10 minutes later they were cheers from the visiting support again as the lead was extended. A long Ciaran Blaney ball into the box was headed back across goal by McElwaine and Pasoma finished neatly from 7 yards despite the close attentions of a number of defenders.
Rovers heads were dropped at this stage and they conceded a third on 78 minutes when Oisin Doherty finished sweetly from 20 yards with a neat effort with the outside of his left foot which went in off the post.
Zach Gorman and Shane Doherty both came close for what would have been just a consolation goal but the points go back to Traigh-a-Locha in a convincing victory while Rovers will be hoping to improve considerably in their quest for cup honours which continue next weekend.
