The Donegal Women’s League is to explore the possibility of entering a team in the inaugural Under-17 National League.
The Donegal Women’s League has submitted an expression of interest.
It’s envisioned that the new league will kick off in March or April of 2018, in line with the Women’s National League calendar, and will encompass clubs from all over the country.

The Under-17 League is an attempt to bridge a gap between schoolgirls and senior football.
Squads will be limited to 20 players per team and coaches will be required to have a minimum of a UEFA B License in order to participate.
The growth of the women’s game in Ireland has accelerated in recent years and this was proven with 45 teams competing at the FAI 2017 Gaynor Tournament in Limerick.
Donegal has competed well in the Gaynor Cup while the newly-formed North West Women’s Super League – an amalgamation at senior level of the Donegal Women’s League and Inishowen Ladies League – breathed new life into the women’s game in the county.
Current senior internationals Roma McLaughlin, Tyler Toland and Amber Barrett have shown the way for budding players in the county while the likes of Amy Boyle-Carr, Neve Scanlon, Zoe Green and Ciana Brogan have all played at international level.
The FAI have asked for expressions of interest to be submitted before the close of business tomorrow.
