The Donegal Women’s League Under-12 League continued on Easter Monday with a full programme of games down for decision.
Lagan Harps 5 Raphoe Town 0
Raphoe and Lagan Harps met on a cold morning in Orchard Park.
The game started brightly with Lagan’s Erin Doherty swinging a cross from right to left to meet Niamh Sweeney at back post. Her shot was narrowly wide.
Good defending fromRraphoe’s Shania McGonigle, Ella McHugh and Cara Eaton kept Lagan at bay but Lagan always posed a threat winning the ball in dangerous areas.
Raphoe’s Aine O’Flanaghan forced Lagan’s keeper Aoife Sweeney into a great save.
Pressure from Lagan was rewarded by a bottom left corner finish from Harriet McCrossan.
Moments later a cross from Erin Doherty caused confusion in the Raphoe box to claim Lagan a second goal.
With half-time fast approaching McCrossan was rewarded her second goal of the game.
Raphoe however counter attacked with a free kick by McGonagle saved well by Lagan keeper Sweeney.
as the second half started Raphoe began to find their feet with many chances being created but Lagan’s defence stood strong.
Despite Raphoe’s hard work, Lagan gained a fourth goal from a corner put in by Tanya Gillen that met the right boot of Erin Doherty.
Late into the second half Erin Doherty converted her third goal of the game to finish the game 5-0 in Lagans favour.
Best for Lagan was Lesha Kelly with Rocha McCullagh impressing for Raphoe.
Mulroy S 4 Gweedore United 3
Mulroy S sealed a victory in a well-fought battle with a strong Gweedore United side.
Gweedore took the early lead in first half followed closely by goal number two to double the lead; the goals coming from Orla McFadden and Marianne Ward.
Mulroy S battled hard with a solid back line of Aoife Sweeney and Meabh Mc Ateer.
Megan Mc Laughlin in the back line worked well and saw the opportunity to cross the ball to Jessica Coll who with rapid pace finished with a well deserved goal to put Mulroy back in the game.
Olivia Friel showed great determination and tried hard to reach Kelly Carr and Kate McAdoo in the forward line but Gweedore was not going to let this happen.
Jessica Coll once again alert in midfield intercepted the keeper ball at half way line and saw a chance and finished a great run with a second goal.
Gweedore had a great back line that was hard to crack. Both side were even going into the second half.
Megan McLaughlin recieved a lovely cross from Eva Blaney ending in a goal that put Mulroy ahead.
Forwards for Mulroy Aoife Mc Mullen, Hannah Gibbons & Roisin Carr tried hard for Mulroy but a lively keeper kept them at bay.
A cross from Megan McLaughlin saw Aoife Carr getting her foot to the ball at the goalpost securing number four for Mulroy. Gweedore did not shy away and finished a super run up when McFadden netted her second of the game.
A bitter battle to the end that could have went either way. This time favour was on the side of the young Mulroy S squad.
Finn Valley 0 Kilmacrennan Celtic 4
Finn Valley u12s entertained Kilmacrennan Celtic in their first home game of the season in glorious sunshine in Stranorlar.
Both sides displayed great skills, tenacity and endeavour throughout the first half with both goalkeepers playing their parts in keeping the game scoreless at half time.
The second half continued much like the first with chances at both ends, until midway through the half, Kilmacrennan scored with a well-executed shot by Maeve Brady, which went in off the post to beat the impressive Valley keeper, Claire Diver.
Valley created some chances before Kilmacrennan gradually took a grip on the game and added further goals by Sarah McFadden and two from Siobhan Cameron, before the end to make the score a rather flattering 4-0 in their favour.
Best for Kilmacrennan were Kyra McGranaghan and Maeve Brady. Valley once again showed great work-rate throughout and all players can be proud of their performances.
Swilly Rovers 0 Mulroy M 9
Mulroy M scored an impressive win over Swilly Rovers at Swilly Park on Monday.
Iseult Ni Mhatuna and Rachel Friel both scored hat-tricks for Mulroy M, while Cairhlin Heraghty was on the mark with a brace of goals and Clodagh Herron also struck for the rampant Mulroy side.
Gweedore Celtic 0 Illistrin FC 2
Illistrin claimed a valuable away win on Monday as they defeated Gweedore Celtic.
Erika Gallagher and Myah McBride bagged the goals for Illistrin, who did well to keep a clean sheet.
