On a night when most people stayed indoors the Donegal Women’s League Under-12 Plate Final was played in very inclement weather conditions at Lurgy Park.
Kilmacrennan Celtic 3 Bonagee United 1
The large crowd in attendance weren’t disappointed with the game that followed.
Both Kilmacrennan Celtic and Bonagee took to the field in search of silverware and despite the rain both teams served up a hugely entertaining game of football on the excellent surface.
With defences on top for most of the game it was Kilmac’s inspirational midfielder Meabh Brady who broke the deadlock firing home to put the home team ahead.
Bonagee grew in to the game after this and were well served in midfield with both Chloe Creevy and Caitlyn Fletcher working tirelessly to put the Dry Arch on the front foot.
Their pressure was rewarded when they were awarded a penalty and Creevy despatched it to the net to leave it all square at the break.
The second half was an end to end affair with defences holding firm and with Ginny Diver (Bonagee) and Hanna O’Neill (Kilmac) in defiant mood at the heart of both defences goalscoring chances were at a premium.
However Kilmac forced themselves in front early in the half when hard-working striker Aoife Cameron scored from close range to the delight of the home support.
Bonagee upped the pressure from here on with Creevy and Fletcher running from deep but couldn’t force the equaliser.
With only seconds left Kilmac sealed victory and the trophy with goal number three, a lovely step over and pass from Rose sent Aoife clear and her first time shot nestled in the far corner to secure the win.
