Two Donegal women played on a history-making Brampton Roger Casements team that won the Shield final in Toronto last weekend – to win the club’s first ever piece of silverware in ladies football.
Letterkenny woman Dani McFadden has been a key part of the club, on and off the field, in recent years.
Midfielder McFadden is the team captain of the side that defeated St Patrick’s 2-8 to 1-10 in the final.
Carol-Ann Scott from Kerrykeel came off the bench and plays as a half-forward.
McFadden was first recruited to Roger Casements in 2012 by her twin sister, Natalie, during her time in Toronto. Natalie is now better known as a striker and a coach at Bonagee United.
Roger Casements were in a spot of trouble and close to winding up in 2014, but were given a new lease of life when Dani took on the role of recruiting players and became the club’s Vice President.
Last weekend was a crowning moment.
“Our club has never won any silverware in ladies football, so we’re absolutely delighted,” McFadden said.
“It was Natalie who actually got me involved playing with the team when she lived her and I just kept playing with them since.”
The Roger Casements team is coached by Drumkeen man Ryan Kettle, who has played in Donegal with St Mary’s, Convoy.
