DONEGAL’S CHALLENGE game against Derry tomorrow has been called off because of the Code Red Weather alert currently in place.
The game was scheduled for Coláiste Ailigh at 1 o’clock was set to act as the official opening of the pitch at the Letterkenny school.
However, the weather warning has forced its postponenment – along with a number of other sporting events in Donegal.
“Due to the Code Red Weather Alert the Donegal V Derry challenge match at Coláiste Ailigh, Letterkenny scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed. It is hoped that this game will be rearranged at a later date,” a statement from Donegal PRO Ed Byrne has confirmed.
This is the first time since the coding of weather began that a Code Red warning has been issued for rainfall.
Met Éireann says that the north-west can expect to get a month’s worth of rainfall over a 36-hour period when Storm Desmond arrives this evening. The area is set to be hit by more than 70 millimetres of rain.
The Letterkenny/North-West Schoolboys League has decided to call off their entire programme of fixtures for the weekend while the Donegal Women’s League training at Ballyare and the Emerging Talent training at Ballyare have also been pulled from the schedule.
