FINN VALLEY AC were celebrating team success in the National Intermediate & Masters XC Championship in Coleraine today, while there were success individually for the county as well.
In an exciting finish, the 50 points accumulated by the Stranorlar-based club was enough for a one-point victory over North Belfast Harriers.
Dermot McElchar (fifth), Shane Mc Nulty (12th) John McElhill (13th) and Seamus O’Donnell did the scoring for the team coached by Mark Connolly and backed by Brian McCrea.
Letterkenny AC were fifth in the team event with 83 points thanks to good runs from Ryamond Birch (15th), Ivan Toner (19th), Paul McGlinchey (23rd) and Kieran Crawford (26th).

The Masters race was won by Pauric McKinney from Inishowen AC, in a time of 24 minutes and two seconds, which was 15 seconds better than Allan Bogle from City of Derry Spartans, while Eamon White from North Belfast Harriers was third with 24:42.

Caitriona Devine was the first home in the Masters’ women’s race in 17:03 and – second in the combined Intermediate and Masters – and that spearhead the challenge on the team event, where Finn Valley took third place and a bronze. Donna Evans was ninth as the scoring was wrapped up by Sinead Kenny and Eimear McDermott backed up by Marie Harvey Harper.
