DONEGAL sports stars are once again prominent in IT Sligo’s Sports Scholarships for 2020/21, gaining scholarships across a range of sports.
IT Sligo has a long tradition of Donegal sports stars choosing the soon to be Technological University for their third level study. In fact, the 2012 All -Ireland winning team featured a number of IT Sligo students and Alumni. Neil and Eamon McGee, Karl Lacey, Paul Durcan, Mark M Hugh and Christy Toye to name a few.
The IT Sligo Sports Scholarships are awarded to up to 60 students each academic year.
The awards come with additional financial, academic and sport supports. Scholarships are awarded across a wide range of sports, which this year included everything from GAA, Soccer, Golf, Equestrian and Athletics to Strongman, Surfing, Chess, Fencing and Motorsport. The Donegal recipients this year include some well known names. Donegal stars Andrew McClean (Kilcar) and Amy Boyle Carr (Glenties) are joined by Paul O’Hare (Naomh Columba), Roisin Rodgers (Naomh Muire), Shane McGrath and Nathan Boyle (both Aodh Ruadh) as GAA recipients.
In soccer, Finn Harps’ Ronan Gallagher (Carrigart) is joined by Sophie Carr (Donegal Town), Luke Rudden (Malin) and Nathan Logue Cunningham (Carndonagh).
Natasha Kelly (Letterkenny) is an Athletics recipient.
Finally, Mason Collins (Ballyshannon) and Oran Gallagher (Bundoran) have both received Sports Scholarships for Golf.
