Four Donegal boxers have booked their places in the finals of the National Girls’ Championships at the National Stadium in Dublin.
The Donegal trio – Illies Golden Gloves’ Chloe McDaid and Carndonagh trio Clodagh McGonigle, Jessica Clarke and Shania McCloskey – will all line up in their respective finals next weekend at the home of Irish boxing.
McDaid (pictured) overcame Molly Kearns from St Anthony’s/Pat’s in her semi-final. In the Girl 4, 53kgs class, McDaid – who won her first Irish title last year – was an impressive and convincing winner, taking a unanimous decision win to book a place in the decider.
McCloskey last week defeated Elizabeth Lloyd from Ballyhaunis 4-1 in the Girl 3 51kgs class to book her spot.
Next Friday, McGonigle gets the action underway when she lines up against Clann Naofa’s Amy Joyce McDonagh in the Girl 2 49kgs final.
On Saturday, McDaid takes on Zoe McGlone from St Paul’s, while McCloskey squares up to Satires Roche from Legacy.
Clarke, in the Junior 2 50kgs final, meets Immaculate’s Caitlin Fryers.
There was no joy, however, for Dunfanaghy’s Ciara Craig. After a win over Holy Family’s Sionna McKenna, on a split decision, on Friday night, Craig was beaten on a similar decision by Castlebar’s Kirsten Cresham at Junior 2 52kgs.
