DONEGAL manager Rory Gallagher is hopeful that Eamon McGee will be fit for next weekend’s All-Ireland quarter-final against Mayo.
The Gaoth Dobhair man had to be withdrawn at half-time in last evening’s round 4B qualifier win over Galway at Croke Park after rolling his ankle late in the first half.
McGee suffered a similar injury in Donegal’s Ulster quarter-final clash against Armagh, but made a swift recovery on that occasion.
“He did similar against Armagh and was back in five or six days,” Gallagher said.
“It doesn’t appear to be too bad at all so we’ll just have to monitor it.”
McGee’s presence will be vital to Donegal’s hopes given that he appears tailor-made to mark the in-form Aidan O’Shea.
Karl Lacey sat out the Galway game because of a knee injury and remains in a race against time for Mayo.
Gallagher said: “It will be touch and go. He’s making good progress so we’ll see. We’re very keen to get him back.”
