FINN VALLEY AC’S NEIL MARTIN is manager of the Irish team for tomorrow’s IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in Cardiff, Wales.
Leevale’s Lizzie Lee and Annadale Striders’ Paul Pollock lead the Irish teams.
Lee will be the sole Irish woman in Cardiff due to the racing calendar and plans of the other leading Irish women.
Pollock will lead a full men’s team of five and will be looking to replicate his performance at the last edition of the Championships in Copenhagen where he ran a swift 62:10 for 30th – still his personal best for the event.
A strong quartet of Kevin Seaward (St Malachy’s), Segiu Ciobanu (Clonliffe Harriers), Sean Hehir (Rathfarnham) and Thomas Frazer (Crusaders) will flank Pollock in Wales as they bid to put in a good performance.
Glenfin native Martin (pictured above) is manager of the team and Johnny Loughrey from Letterkenny is the physio with Team Ireland.
Martin has had a lengthy time managing Irish teams. Since 1998, he has been at every world and European Junior Track & Field Championships, bar 2, and has travelled to Jamaica, Canada, USA, Japan, Korea, and all over Europe as a team manager.
He has managed teams at the World Cross Country Championships in 2006 in Fukoaka Japan as well as at European and World Championship level. Last year, he was manager of the Irish team at the World University Games Gwangju Korea.
