Donegal have won the All-Ireland Masters on two occasions in the past. On their return this term, they bid for Shield glory as they take on another newcomer, Offaly, on Saturday afternoon.
Donegal survived a late onslaught by Westmeath in their semi-final at Bawnboy, Cavan two weeks ago, but the Tir Chonaill Masters prevailed 0-15 to 0-12 when time was called.
[adrotate group=”86″]Donegal had led by five points at the break, but Westmeath hit back and the game was in the balance until Dan Branley arched over a point in injury time.
Bundoran’s Branley hit four points while Sean MacCumhaills clubman Shaun Boyce notched six.
McNulty has plenty of experience to draw from and includes eight-time Donegal SFC winner John Haran (St Eunan’s) in his squad list for this weekend’s game.
Glenswilly’s Gerard McGrenra – the Donegal captain – has been to the fore throughout the campaign to date, scoring 1-2 in their opening 2-13 to 0-7 win over Antrim.
Donegal were awarded a walkover win against Leitrim, who failed to field, while they lost out by two points against Tyrone.
Branley, Charlie Gallagher (Four Masters), Charlie Doherty (Naomh Muire) and David McShane (Kilcar) were all part of the International Masters Series squad recently.
Offaly are also newcomers to the competition again and include former Offaly senior players John Kenny and Roy Malone in their squad.
