DONEGAL MAN Paul McLaughlin was last night named as the Referee of the Year at the PFAI Awards at the Gibson Hotel in Dublin.
The 35-year-old Burnfoot native is a member of An Garda Siochana and is now based in Ardee, County Louth.
McLaughlin, whose home club is Aileach FC, has been officiating at League of Ireland level since 2008.
The award is voted for by the League of Ireland’s players, giving it real prestige among the whistlers.
McLaughlin holds a FIFA badge and has been involved in games at Champions League and international level, while he refereed the behind-closed-doors friendly between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
