Keadue and Castlefin played out a draw in a decent game at Central Park on Saturday despite the tough windy conditions throughout.
It was a fairly even first 10 minutes with neither side making much in the way of chances but in the sixteenth minute, Keadue had the first effort at goal when Mikey Mc Fadden hit a long-range effort which was well saved by the visiting keeper.
Castlefin had a good period around the 22-minute mark, making some good runs and trying a few long-range efforts but they found Shaun Yank Boyle in the home goals equal to any shot. Keadue were almost ahead on 25 minutes when a free kick launched high into the box caused problems and Malachi Boyle’s effort hit the post and the rebound was saved.
On 30 minutes, Christy Greene’s effort was just wide. Castlefin did end the half well and almost went ahead when a cross from the right-hand side was almost flicked into the net by a Keadue defender. With the wind at their backs, Castlefin were brighter at the start of the second half.
The home side though were content to absorb the pressure and hit on the break.
Castlefin had a good chance on 65 minutes when Lee Kennedy’s verwell-struckck volley was saved by Shaun Yank Boyle. A few substitutions did help Keadue’s cause and one of them, Jack Doherty, after 80 minutes, following a good move, played a great ball through to Mikey Mc Fadden who shot low past the keeper for the lead.
It looked like the home side would hold on for the victory but a good ball into Corrie Lee Bogan led to a fine finish in the penalty area to finish the game at 1-1. A fair result for both sides on a challenging day for football.

Both teams started the game well with chances for both. St Catherine’s conceded a penalty on the stroke of half-time when their defender was deemed to have fouled the Oldtown attacker, although the challenge appeared to have been outside the box.
The penalty was converted despite the best efforts of the Saints Keeper Shane O’ Gara. St. Catherines equalised early in the second half when substitute Kristen Mc Nelis finished with his first touch.
Oldtown regained the lead with 20 minutes remaining and sealed the victory late on with an unstoppable free kick from the edge of the box. Best for St. Catherines were Connor Knox and Patrick Dowd.
A blistering start from the home side in this encounter was the winning of the game, as the Town found themselves three goals to the good after 25 minutes.
Gary Ward’s wonderful long-range effort opened the scoring in the first minute, as he reacted quickest to a breaking ball to fire home from outside the area.
It was two shortly afterwards when Donegal veteran David ‘Ted’ Bustard finished well from inside the area from a corner.
The third goal followed ten minutes later when James Kerrigan jinked his way through the Glenea defence to slot home. Donegal continued to pile on the pressure with the aid of a strong breeze but couldn’t add to the scoring. Glenea enjoyed large periods of possession in the second half but were restricted to long-range efforts.
They did pull one back with five minutes remaining on the clock when Sean Mc Cafferty slotted home from the spot. Team performances from both sides.

Kildrum Tigers maintained their good start to the Saturday League season with a fine home win over Drumkeen at Station Road Park.
The Tigers took the lead in the 41st minute when Daniel McNulty converted a penalty following a foul on Emmett O’Donnell.
Kildrum could have made it 2-0 but O’Donnell was denied by an excellent save.
But the Tigers did double the advantage when James McNulty got on the end of a Justin McGee pass and he made no mistake.
Ethan Coll added a third on 67 minutes after being fed by Daniel McNulty.
12 minutes from the end, Kildrum completed the scoring as O’Donnell headed home from Daniel McNulty’s cross.
Cappry took the lead in this game after two minutes when Aaron Kelly tapped home following a save from the Drumoghill keeper. Drumoghill got back level in the fifth following a scramble in the Cappry box. Drumoghill took the lead in the 15th minute through a fine finish.
Drumoghill made it 3-1 when they broke from a Cappry corner. Cappry should have had a goal back when Aaron Kelly’s header appeared to cross the line but unfortunately for the home side, it wasn’t given. Cappry started the second half well and got a goal back through Aaron Kelly.
Cappry pressed to get level but in the 66th minute, the visitors got a penalty which Drumoghill duly converted. Cappry didn’t give in and almost got a third when Aaron Kelly’s shot from 30-yards hit the underside of the bar.
Aaron Kelly did complete his hat-trick in the 83rd minute. Cappry pressed to get level but couldn’t. Two team performances.
