Fintown Harps AFC 2 Drumbar F.C. 2
In perfect conditions Fintown Harps welcomed Drumbar to Park Achla and it was Fintown who started the better, creating a couple of chances but all to no avail.
Then came the breakthrough when some nice play through the middle was finished well by the Fintown striker. D
rumbar responded well and got their reward when the winger cut in from the left and finished well to the roof of the net.
Fintown then regained the lead before halftime when Odhran was taken down in the box with the penalty was duly converted.
The second half was very close with chances for both sides but Drumbar started to really press and they got their reward with a shot from distance. 2-2 it ended which was a fair result for both teams.
Dunlewey Celtic 0 Glencar Celtic 2
In wonderful condition’s it was the visitors who took all three points with Garvan Grieve starting the scoring with a well taken goal.
They increased their lead when Ciaran Doherty finished a move that started from defence and finished in a goal.
The second half was nip and tuck and the home side came close a few times but were unable to get a goal.
The Glencar team deserved all three points and look hot favorites to take the league title. Best for Dunlewey were Paul Coll and Keith Sweeney. Team performance from Glencar.
Orchard F.C. 2 Strand Rovers 1
This game was played at Letterkenny Community Centre. It was a very entertaining game from the start.
A good flowing move down the right hand side found Joe McCarron who’s shot took a slight deflection that lead to Orchard’s first goal. Orchard went 2-0 ahead when Krissi McLaughlin put in a good cross and found Ciaran Gibson’s head and the back of the net before the break.
Strand Rovers pulled one back early in the second half from a free kick and that found Jack Doherty and he scored from close range. Orchard keep pressing for a third but good defending from Strand Rovers keep them at bay.
Saturday Reserve Division
Castlefin Celtic Reserves 4 Glenree United Reserves 0
Castlefin maintained their lead at the top of the table with a hard fought victory over a stubborn Glenree side on Saturday in Parkview. In a dull first half the hosts created the only opportunity of note when Keith Nelis headed wide after a Simon Mc Glinchey pass.
In the second half Castlefin made the break through when Gary McNulty broke down the left and crossed to Nelis who smashed home from 12 yards after 48 minutes. In the 58th minute Nelis doubled the home sides advantage when he converted a penalty. Castlefin kept pushing and Gary McNulty had an effort well saved from the visiting keeper.
Nelis completed his hat-trick when he rose highest to head home a McNulty corner after 75 minutes.
In the closing minutes Castlefin completed the scoring when Gary Healey found himself in space and squared to Paul Logue who headed home. Best for Castlefin: Marty Owens. Best for Glenea: Team Performance. Referee: George Clinton
Drumoghill F.C. Reserves 2 Erne Wanderers Reserves 0
The first half was very even with the only chance of the half falling to Ethan McCready who forced a fine save from the Erne keeper.
The first goal of the game arrived on the hour mark when Ross Hamilton won possession in midfield to sent Ethan McCready through on goal, with a lovely ball in behind the Erne defence to fire Drumoghill ahead.
Goal number two arrived five minutes later when Ross Hamlin sent Caolan O’Donnell through on goal to seal all three points for Drumoghill. Referee: Brian O’ Kane
Keadue Rovers Reserves 3 St. Catherines Reserves 2
This reserve league game, which was switched to Strand Park, Maghery on Saturday afternoon saw Keadue Rovers take all three points in an entertaining game.
It was a good day for football and the visitors were the brighter starters with more possession. Keadue though started to create a few chances, a cross from Daniel Bonner just headed wide by Ryan Greene.
Another few openings came Keadue’s way before the 10th minute but against the run of play it was St. Catherine’s who took the lead with John Joe McGinley hitting a fine effort to the corner of the net from the edge of the area.
Keadue made a good response and Corey Gallagher was just wide with an effort on seventeen minutes.
For the next 15 minutes the home side pushed St. Catherine’s back but not much fell in the way of chances and the visitors had a good effort just wide on the half hour.
Keadue were level on 32 minutes when a cross from the right was handled and Chris Greene finished the penalty into the top corner.
With most of the possession towards the end of the first half Ryan Greene was unlucky with an effort just wide of the far post. Keadue made a good start to the second half but were trailing on fifty minutes when an error in the home defence led to a tap in at the near post from Charlie Boyle to give St. Catherine’s the lead.
Near the hour mark Keadue made a double substitution and it gave them extra legs pinning the visitors back and getting plenty of crosses into the box.
By the 70th minute Keadue were very unlucky when a cross from the left, met by Ryan Greene, was hooked off the line.
From the resultant corner again Keadue hit a shot which was cleared off the line.
They got their reward though 15 minutes from the end when Daniel Bonner met a cross at the near post with a neat finish.
St Catherine’s remained dangerous on the break though and a header was just wide on eighty minutes. Keadue continued to press for the winner and were rewarded in the ninetieth minute when a corner ended up with Damien Hanlon tapping in for Keadue.
A good game with Keadue deserving the three points in the end.
Best for St. Catherine’s were John Joe McGinley, Charlie Boyle and Shane O’Gara while best for Keadue were Hugh Moy, Aaron Boyle and Ryan Greene. Referee: Seamus Mc Groary.
Kilmacrennan Celtic Reserves 4 Donegal Town Reserves 2
Kilmac got back winning ways after a great team effort against Donegal Town.
They took lead on 30 minutes after a great passing move saw Ciaran Bonner run onto Sean Sandiland’s pass to score.
On 60 minutes Sean Sandilands scored at the near post after a great pass from Dara McGrath. Donegal scored on 65 minutes through Stephen Curneen.
‘Budgie’ scored a fine goal on 75 minutes after great work down the right wing he beat two defenders and unleashed a great shot from 30 yards into top corner.
On 80 minutes Ciaran Bonner scored after running onto a great cross from Deckie Sweeney.
Donegal scored on 90 minutes when Ciaran Monaghan beat the off side trap and cooly finished.
Best for Kilmac were Dara McGrath, Ciaran Bonner and veteran Sean Sandilands. Team effort from Donegal Town. Referee: Con McLaughlin
Glenea United Reserves 3 Cappry Rovers Reserves 0
Glenea Reserves continued their good home run with a well-earned victory over Cappry.
In a tight first half both sides tried hard to create openings but found both defences in good form.
Glenea eventually opened the scoring on 35 minutes when the away defence failed to deal with a long through ball and Michael McHugh was on hand to lob the ball into the net from 20 yards.
Cappry continued to press and it took a fine save from Shaun McClafferty on the stroke of half time to keep the home side in front.
Glenea started the second half well but failed to take advantage of a number of openings.
As the half progressed Cappry came back into the game and went close with a number of chance, but it was the home side that scored next on 67 minutes when Conor McClafferty came onto a clearance 25 yards out and his effort flew into the top corner.
Cappry pressed hard to pull a goal back but were open to the counter attack and on 85 minutes were punished by Martin Ferry who got onto a long through ball to beat the defender and slot home.
Best for Glenea were Eamonn McHugh and Michael Mc Clafferty, while it was a team effort from Cappry. Referee: James Malseed
